Roger Pfund
Painter, graphic artist and designer, born in Bern in 1943, Roger Pfund has dual Swiss and French nationality.
In 1958, Roger Pfund forms a jazz trio with friends and in 1959, performs semiprofessionally with his trio and other groups as a parallel activity to his painting. It was in 1963 that Roger Pfund received his Swiss scientific maturité qualification and began his apprenticeship with graphic designer Kurt Wirth in Bern, which lasted until 1966.
In 1966, Roger Pfund set up his studio in Bern and then moved to Geneva in 1971. Roger Pfund is best known for designing the Swiss passport and for the creation of banknotes for many countries, including the last series of French banknotes.
In 1969, he was invited by the Swiss National Bank to enter the competition for a new series of banknotes.
An exceptional graphic artist and talented designer whose work is widely known, he has received many international prizes and honours from numerous institutions and in 2002 was awarded the French distinction of Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
A multi-faceted man, he is an extremely talented painter for whose work demand continues to grow. His paintings are a distillation of himself. Clearly visible in them are his passion for life and colour, for men and women who have led extraordinary lives and for the freedom of peoples and ideas. He brilliantly combines painting with pigments with delicate intaglio engraving whose transparent inks reveal the painted gesture.
Since 1966, Roger Pfund has exhibited his personal work in Europe, America, Africa and Asia.
